There Are Options for Bikini Hair Removal at Home

With many ways to get rid of unwanted hair on the bikini line, it's no question that women are undecided about what method to use when it comes to bikini hair removal at home. Here are some tips and tricks for each method that will help you decide which one is right for you.

Shaving is probably the most popular way to get rid of pubic hair because it’s pain-free and convenient, but it can leave some rather ugly bumps on the bikini line if not done the right way. Don’t just grab any old razor for this job. You’ll want a razor made specifically for the bikini line and a moisturizing shaving cream or gel. A transparent gel will help you to see where you are shaving. Make sure your razor is sharp and clean, and shave in the direction of the hair growth. To avoid bumps, itching and skin irritation, apply a toner with witch hazel or rosemary. If you exfoliate on a regular basis, it will help keep the follicles open which will help you avoid ugly and painful bumps.

Waxing can be painful, but it produces smoother results over shaving. There are a few ways you can lessen the pain associated with waxing which will make the experience more tolerable. Use a desensitizing gel or pop an ibuprofen 20 minutes before starting to reduce the pain. Sprinkle on baby powder so the wax will stick to your hair and not your skin. And afterwards, apply hydrogen peroxide to disinfect the area.

Sugaring is an excellent alternative to waxing. Although it is like waxing in that it pulls the hair out from the root with a sugar paste and fabric strips, it tends to be easier on the skin. Many organic sugaring kits are now available, and you can even make your own sugar paste at home using ingredients from your pantry. Plus, sugar can be removed with just water so if you have sensitive skin that is prone to bumps, this may be a good choice for you.

Depilatory lotions or creams work well on the bikini line, and are not painful when used as directed. However, use depilatory products on the bikini line only; using it in more sensitive areas can cause chemical burns.

Electrolysis is a method for women that want to remove hair permanently, and there are electrolysis kits made for use at home that are a fraction of the cost of professional electrolysis services. Electrolysis is no more painful than waxing, and taking an ibuprofen 20 minutes before you start can help very much.
